Pandayan Bookshop is a chain of stores founded in 1993. It is now spread across northern Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Cagayan Valley. Its mission is “Maging kabalikat ng kabataan tungo sa kabutihan at karunungan.” Its vision is “Maging pambansang tatak para sa kapwa.”
The product categories of Pandayan include school and office supplies, books and magazines, posters and charts, arts and crafts, fashion accessories, gifts and décor, greeting cards, and party fun. For discounts, a Kaibigan Card is available for teachers (Guro Edition) and bulk buyers of office supplies (Opisina Edition). Pandayan also conducts creativity workshops under its Sining Pandayan program.
Pandayan adheres to the Kapwa Management Model wherein the primary processes are pakikipagkapwa-tao and pagkamakatao. Pandayan is designed to serve and help employees find meaning in life, mainly by living a virtuous life and making a difference in the lives of others. A meaningful life energizes employee creativity, a stimulus that leads to extraordinary customer service, innovation and greater profitability for the company.
Pandayan Bookshop pursues a Pangarap para sa Panday. Every regular employee should be able to save enough to own a house, send their children to good schools, eat nutritious food, wear decent clothes, and enjoy leisure time. The realization of this dream is made possible by incentive compensation and Sarilikha, a credit cooperative owned by employees. Another income-generating employee-own`ed cooperative, 10 daliri, makes products that are sold in Pandayan stores.
The performance guide of Pandayan is its Kultura ng Tagumpay. This set of beliefs focuses on the core values of the company, its major management methods, and its principles of leadership. Among the basic core values mentioned are honesty, industry, courtesy, caring, focus, engagement, dedication, and accountability.
In addition to the Kultura ng Tagumpay and management meetings, other integrative mechanisms help sustain the cohesion and direction. Among them are the balanced scorecard, called Timbangan ng Tagumpay which is monitored monthly; the E-MAP (Excellence in Management Assurance Plan) composed of monthly performance assessments; the quarterly Pangkat Plan for each group of stores; and Samalikha, Pandayan’s monthly newsletter.
The realization of Pandayan Bookshop’s dreams is made possible by a profitable customer-driven enterprise; a performance-based incentive compensation scheme consisting of monthly bonuses and annual profit sharing; and Sarilikha, the employee’s credit cooperative. Pandayan Bookshop expects 10 daliri, their multi-purpose cooperative, to add another income stream to fuel their aspirations for a life of quality.
